The use of fonts in marketing follow set guidelines, not only for consistency but also for cost efficiency. Font licenses are purchased for specific purposes, while free fonts are indicated for general use.

The use of fonts in marketing also follow set guidelines, not only for consistency but also for cost efficiency. Font licenses are purchased for specific purposes only, while free fonts are indicated for general use.

Free Fonts

From Google

When using an SEU digital template, creating something that represents the university, or working with a third party system, you can download the following free Google fonts. Note the proper usage of each font type.

Preferred Fonts — SEU

Purchased Licenses

SEU Creative’s printed and digital marketing pieces utilize fonts that are purchased and used under license. These primary preferred fonts are Gotham & Chronicle. This means that we obtain the necessary permissions and licenses to use these typefaces in our marketing materials. 

Licensed fonts are not for general use. Contact SEU Creative at seumarketing@seu.edu to discuss whether purchasing a font is an option for your needs.

These fonts are specific to SEU and should not be used in place of Fire Athletics fonts (below).

Best Practices

  • Use small squares for bulleted text (Zapf Dingbats font)
  • Separate phone number digits with periods, not hyphens
  • SEU’s core font palette consists of two font families: Gotham and Chronicle. The proper use of these typefaces will reinforce our brand.
  • Gotham can be used for display type, headings, and callouts.
  • Chronicle Display in varying weights can also be used for display type, headings, quotes, and callouts.
  • Chronicle Text is used for body copy. Typical format is 9 point type over 15 leading. (Leading is the spacing between lines of text).

Printed and digital marketing pieces for Fire Athletics utilize fonts that are purchased and used under license. These primary preferred fonts are Forza, Dobra Slab, and Helvetica Neue Condensed. This means that Athletics obtains the necessary permissions and licenses to use these typefaces. 

Licensed fonts are not for general use. These fonts are specific to Fire Athletics and should not be used in place of SEU’s preferred fonts (above).

These are free Google fonts for anyone’s use.

For Web Use

Subheads/Body Copy: Kepler

These are purchased Adobe fonts used under license.

Gotham can be used for display type, headings, and callouts.

Chronicle Display in varying weights can also be used for display type, headings, quotes, and callouts.
